MCTC is a large, ethnically diverse community and technical college located in the heart of Minneapolis, with over 11,000 students attending annually. MCTC is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association. Offering 50 career programs, 47 liberal arts disciplines, academic development programs, and continuing education and training programs, MCTC provides a wide variety of educational programs for professionals and the community.
The Aviation Department at MCTC needed a customized web-based training solution to supplement and support their existing hands-on, instructor led activities. High Monkey Consulting built an interactive, highly-detailed 757 airplane interface that operates seamlessly with the WebCT system MCTC was already using. All aspects of the training included motivational components, which engage the user through novelty, humor, game elements, adventure, unique content, and surprise elements. The application was developed using the following platforms: Authorware, Flash, HTML, DHTML, and Streaming Media. Each program we developed was broken down into three crucial elements of information transmission, practical exercises, and realistic simulations, allowing students to learn interactively in addition to their classroom activities.
