Industrial Automation Engineering, Inc:
iae-online.com
HMC was engaged by Industrial Automation Engineering (IAE) to develop a MOSS 2007 collaborative portal for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway (BNSF) to manage interactions between IAE engineering support staff and 500+ BNSF employees. Named “Support Central”, information is collected via proprietary SQL systems from BNSF remote fueling locations, bridges, and tunnels and is then managed and shared via the collaborative portal using built-in SharePoint functionality and SQL reporting services. IAE also uses this system to manage all BNSF support requests across the United States throughout the entire request lifecycle. This collaborative portal has allowed IAE to more effectively communicate with BNSF and provide real-time support services. One unique feature of this MOSS portal is the delivery of real-time SCADA locomotive fueling depot data in a visual format within the portal.
High Monkey was engaged by BNSF Railways in late 2009 to develop a next generation of the portal using the improved features and functionality of SharePoint 2010. Named SCX (for Support Central Extreme), the portal provides for seamless communication between internal IAE support staff and BNSF employees. The new portal simplifies the process of creating maintenance projects and tasks and provides for the collection and management of extensive documentation and notes around a maintenance situation and the work performed. Communication has also been improved via the rollup of tasks and project information and a simplified process for pushing updates and announcements to BNSF staff members. The new SCX site also takes advantage of SharePoint 2010’s improved centralized document repository technology and meta-data management features.
