As we move past the peak of summer vacation season, it only seems right to keep you all posted on what is happening in my world (especially since I blog soooo often…I know, its going to change soon!). Well after I get done with a trip this weekend out to the great city of New York, I am going to be heading out to Washington DC to lend a hand with the first ever SharePoint Saturday the conference (that is if our country does not end, like the media says, on August 2nd J)

SharePoint Saturday The Conference

  • WHEN? August 11-13, 2011
  • WHERE? Washington D.C.

This is the first conference of its kind, and is an extended, three-day version of the one-day SharePoint Saturday events. "SharePoint Saturday The Conference" is a community-focused, educational event filled with sessions from respected SharePoint professionals and executives covering a wide range of technical and business topics. The event is designed to equip professionals who work with SharePoint with the latest business and technical knowledge about SharePoint. The event includes educational tracks for IT pros, developers, end users, business process owners, business managers and professionals specializing in cloud computing. Attendance is expected to reach 2500-3000 people.

I will personally be giving a short session on Breaking Down SharePoint Silos and a full-day workshop on SharePoint IA Design 101 with Richard Harbridge, a Senior SharePoint Analyst at Allin Consulting.

My session - Breaking Down SharePoint IA Silos - a deep dive session that will break down successful SharePoint IA strategy into 3 spheres of understanding.

  • Why SharePoint information systems usually fail
  • What makes an Information Architecture strategy REALLY work
  • How you can use SharePoint and solid IA practices to build scalable information structure

My workshop - SharePoint IA Design 101 - will dive into what a successful SharePoint IA strategy really is and how to make tactical decisions that will lead to a more effective SharePoint implementation. The workshop will cover some of the same basic concepts as Breaking Down SharePoint Silos, but will offer a more in-depth and comprehensive exploration into

  • Visualizing and Communicating SharePoint Concepts in order to successfully educate and engage users, IT and the business as whole.
  • Making Information Architecture Decisions and managing the nuances and challenges that will unfold.
  • A Case Study Approach to Implementing SharePoint IA
  • Other tips and tricks

Admission to SharePoint Saturday The Conference is $39 until August 7, 2011, then goes up to $59. All SharePoint Saturday events, including SharePoint Saturday The Conference, are all-volunteer-based. The funds raised through sponsorships and admissions are used to directly support the events. For more information about the event or to register, visit

I cannot tell you how excited I am about this conference. I know there is going to be a great turnout and TONS of great sessions. Not only will it have some of the best speakers, but its also as cost effective as you're going to get for a 3 day conference in our world!

AND just in case you see this before Saturday July 30th both Peter and I will be at the SharePoint Saturday New York this weekend. It's sold out, so no more tickets, but lots of fun! J

SharePoint Saturday New York (SOLD OUT)

  • WHEN? July 30, 2011
  • WHAT? I will be giving a session on, How to Facilitate the Government out of Governance, which will explore governance plans that keep the end-user in sight. One of High Monkey's Sr. SharePoint Architect's (and also a Banana Blog Contributor), Peter Serzo will be giving a session that explores The 2010 Content Query Web Part. We hope to see you there!
