Stupid Usability #90

A Look at Our Relationship with Manufactured Objects

From the mind of Jared Vander Hook, Consultant at High Monkey:

From toothbrushes, to chairs, to tech gadgets; interactions with manufactured objects are deeply imbedded into our daily lives. In fact, it’s so deeply imbedded that when I start to think about my daily routines I have a hard time finding anything that doesn’t somehow involve manufactured objects. Most of these objects are intuitive and add value to our lives, which is why we use them.

It’s easy to notice the instances of “stupid usability” that we encounter, hence this blog series. Conversely, when something is intuitive there’s usually no reason to think twice about it; it just works. Unless of course it is something that is new and revolutionary.

Objectified is a documentary about our relationship with manufactured objects and the people who design them. It provides a glance into the creative process behind some of the most influential designers, the products they have made, and how they impact our lives. Watching this documentary heightened my appreciation and awareness of the creativity and thought that goes into designing and creating the manufactured objects that are interwoven into our daily lives.
