About this Crash Course

The Search Strategy & Accessibility Crash Course will consist of Best Practices, Case Studies, and a demonstration of Funnelback software tools for both Accessibility and Search.

Part one: Accessibility

Start out the 10:00 AM hour with a review and deep dive into Accessibility requirements and best practices.  The focus will be on WCAG AA and the WAVE tool that you can use to evaluate how compliant your website actually is.  Next, we will dive into a couple of High Monkey client case studies so you can learn how they approached accessibility and how they are working to stay compliant.  As we close in on lunch, you will see how the Accessibility Auditing tool from Funnelback works to manage, monitor, and maintain your website to meet accessibility standards.

In the accessibility part of the Event, you will:

  • Learn how to evaluate the current level of accessibility your website meets (or doesn't meet)
  • Look at best practices to approach accessibility compliance
  • Dig into the Funnelback Accessibility Auditor software tool

Part two: site search strategy

After lunch, we move into the topic of Search Strategy. We look at Search as part of your overall Content Strategy, however, it is such a large subject that we decided to devote the afternoon exclusively to Search. We will start by looking at what search is and how it really works. We dig into best practices around metadata, content types, keywords, key phrases, the use of header and image tags, and how to write "themed content" that search engines love. Next we will look at several High Monkey client case studies to show the pain that search was causing, the challenges to overcome by implementing search best practices, and demonstrations of live search and how results are displayed on websites.  The last part of the afternoon focuses again a demonstration of the Funnelback search tool and the power it brings to everything from localized website search all the way up to enterprise-level search.  Then it's Happy Hour!

In the Search Strategy part of the Crash Course, you will:

  • Gain an understanding of what search is and how it really works
  • Look at best practices to make your content searchable
  • Learn how to implement and manage search
  • Dig into the Funnelback Search software tool
