Inside the new OSA site

In June, High Monkey wrapped a full information architecture and accessibility rebuild for the Minnesota Office of the State Auditor. The new site's been live for a few weeks now, and we wanted to walk through how it came together.

OSA's site is the primary resource for financial reporting and compliance guidance for more than 4,300 counties, cities, towns, and special districts across Minnesota.

The starting point wasn't a blank slate. It was years of pages added one at a time, with minimal consistent structure behind them. Finding the right form usually meant already knowing where to look. We rebuilt the information architecture from the ground up, organized around the audiences actually using the site, and built a tagging system so OSA staff can control what shows up where without needing a developer for every update.

Accessibility wasn't a pass at the end either. The new site needed to meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards, and testing ran alongside development the whole way through.
